Surprise Box: Mitten

How it Went:
It was the first storytime of 2016 so the kids were all pretty excited to be back. I tried out a new opening song from Storytime Katie called Here, Here that they really liked. After the opening song I have a surprise box that the kids have to guess what’s inside (something relating to the theme of the storytime) This week it was a mitten. Red Sled and the Missing Mitten Mystery were definitely the book ¬†favourites. They got antsy during Making a Friend so I stopped reading it and did the flannelboard instead. For the mitten match game, I got a huge pile of mittens that the kids helped to mix up and then it was a race to find a two matching mittens and put them on. I liked the idea. It went over so-so. I got the idea from Chirp magazine.
