Books: Clink by Kelly DiPucchio
Franky by Leo Timmers
Beep and Bah by James Burks
Boy and Bot by Ame Dyckman
Oh No! by Mac Barnett

Activities: song “If you’re a Robot and you know it” from  Anne’s Library Life blog
5 Noisy Robots Flannelboard  from Anne’s Library Life
Song “I’m a little Robot” from Never Shushed
                              Create a robot face game

How it Went: At the beginning I gave out on/off stickers to all the kids to use throughout the storytime. We also used them during the first song, If you’re a robot and you know it.  All the books went over well! Beep and Bah and Oh No were the favourites and we had lots of fun making our faces at the end.

Books: Thelma the Unicorn by Aaron Blabey
Unicorn Thinks He’s Pretty Great by Bob Shea
A Unicorn named Sparkle by Amy Young
Hello, My Name is Octicorn by Kevin Dillar
Uni the Unicorn by Amy Krouse Rosenthal
Activites: Animal Hello action rhyme
5 Little Unicorns feltboard
Song: the ponies are walking
Unicorn horn craft

How it Went: Great storytime! The unicorn theme is definitely skewed slightly to a more female audience but the boys is the group really enjoyed it too. They made their unicorn horns into noses instead of horns!

Books: Super Happy Magic Forest by Matty Long
Chico the Brave by Dave Horowitz
Nobody Likes a Goblin by Ben Hatke
Peggy By Anna Walker

Activites: Stretching rhyme
Climbing Adventure action rhyme
Harold and the purple crayon flannelboard
library scavenger hunt

How it went:  I was so excited for this storytime. My daughter who is 3 and an half was feeling great in the morning but by the time storytime started she was not feeling so well. I started with Super Happy Magic Forest by Matty Long. My kids and I love this book but it was a little hard to read to a big group with all the word bubbles. By the second book my daughter let me know she wasn’t feel well so I was a little distracted the rest of the storytime. The climbing adventure action rhyme was good but a little hard to do actions to. Harold and the purple crayon is always a good one and the library scavenger hunt went well until the end when my daughter got sick on the storytime mat and I decided it was the end of storytime!

Books: Ace Dragon Ltd by Russell Hoban
Dragons love Tacos by Adam Rubin
Paper Bag Princess by Robert Munch
Again by Emily Gravett
If I had a Dragon by Tom Ellery

Activities: How do you feed a dragon action rhyme from Sturgis Kids
Build a taco felts (my melissa and doug taco set from home)
Dragon Hunt from Sturgis Kids
Fly, Dragon, Fly (to tune of skip to my lou)

How it went: It was a smaller group today. I think everyone is sick with the flu that’s going around. Ace Dragon Ltd. and Dragon’s Love Tacos went over great. We had a good time making tacos for my dragon puppets. I laid out lots of different felt toppings and everyone got to pick their favourite  for the giant taco we made and then fed to the dragons. All the kids participated in the dragon hunt and we had a good time running from the dragon in the castle.

Books: Marilyn’s Monster by Michelle Knudsen
Leonardo the Terrible Monster by Mo Willems
Creepy Carrots by Aaron Reynolds
Do Not Build a Frankenstein by Neil Numberman
Dog and Bear Tricks and Treats by Laura Vaccaro Seeger

Activities: Monster’s Galore action rhyme from Sunflower Storytime
Go Away Big Green Monster Feltboard
5 little pumpkins and a witch monkey mitt from JR programming
Monster, Monster Turn Around from Storytime Katie

How it Went: I love Halloween. I love all the kids in their costumes! Everyone was pretty excited about halloween. The ones who didn’t dress up were dying to tell me what they were so we paused before reading books so everyone had a turn to talk about their costumes. We read some monster books and did some monster activites. Creepy Carrots is my favourite but all of the books were great. We ended storytime with halloweenie cupcakes. Happy Halloween!

Alternative Fairytales

Books: Ninja Red Riding Hood by Corey Rosen Schwartz
Me and You by Anthony Browne
Cinderella’s Sister and the Big Bad Wolf
Rapunzel Storybox by Steve Light

Activites: Gingerbread Man Feltboard (JR programming)
Song: Goldilocks, Goldilocks (like teddy bear, teddy bear, from JR Programming)
Lion and Mouse puppet play

How it Went: I had a smaller group today which was great for all the activities. The kids helped put up the felts during the gingerbread man felt story and took turns nicely! The Rapunzel storybox was definitely the favourite. The only hard part was all the kids really wanted to play with the figurines during the story. At the end of storytime, I let them play with the storybox and the puppets from the puppet play.
